Chillin'

Fridays in the Fall are times when we can finally get outside without roasting.  One Friday we met some ducks at a big pond.  You saw that on another blog post.

Then, the next week, we searched out a construction site.

HeyYea held up Daniel so they could see over all the dirt.
Big earth-moving equipment
always makes a man's heart pump a little faster.

One of my favorites--this picture!

Lots of big, colorful machines make lots of noise.

To get a break from the wind, D stayed with me in the back of the car
for just a minute.

Don't you just love boys?!

Daniel studies a big yellow digger and a blue dump truck.
The Construction Site Field Trip was short, but very inspiring.  Back at GiGi and HeyYea's house, we talked about big trucks, tractors, dozers, and diggers all day.

This past Friday, we chilled at home.  Literally.  It was actually cool enough to wear jackets, at last.  A beautiful, bright blue, sunny day gave us lots of time to explore outdoors in the neighborhood.

The next Dr. Bingham finds that a shovel is an important
supplement to his stethoscope and blood pressure cuff.

Somehow . . . all the sand is missing from the sandbox.  Hmmm.
So we filled it with rice, popcorn, and macaroni for scooping and sorting.

HeyYea needs more popcorn in his cup.

While we played in the sandbox, we could hear the garbage truck coming closer and closer.  So, of course, we had to go explore.

Dr. Bingham takes his blood pressure cuff
and stethoscope to the front yard.
Never can tell when you'll need them.

The worker with the crew cut and boots
always talks to Daniel on Fridays.
He works hard too.

Bye Bye, Moco!
Everyone waves.
We followed the Garbage truck on foot for three blocks until we heard the sounds of hammers and saws.  "Go see hammer," my little friend asked.  Time for another adventure!
Check out this red iron and lumber!
We saw men on ladders, really high up.
We saw them raise a wall and secure it in place.
But I didn't take any pictures of them--
not without their permission.

At the corner of the street with the house under construction,
there was a scarecrow that caught Daniel's eye.

She was just his size.
Do you suppose she likes doctors?
We had to chase some birds after we finished talking to the scarecrow.  By that time, GiGi was thinking about how far she would have to carry Little Man if his legs got tired.  So we started to 'look for HeyYea.'  (That's my way of getting headed back to our house without the obligatory nearly-two-year-old response--"no no no.")  On the way we stopped to commune with a bunny statue and then practiced football moves, ie "all fall down" on the sidewalk every two feet or so.  With a combination of transport methods, eventually we wound up back through the garden gate at GiGiHeyYea's house.
This sunflower goes round and round.
"Roda, roda, roda," Daniel says.

HeyYea provides a little support for walking on rocks.

Fascination

So, how does it work?

Here's a good picture of my latest project--
I painted birdhouses and hung the village on our fence.

Some birdhouses came with us from Chappell Hill,
and some came from Hobby Lobby, WalMart, and The Dollar Tree.
It was fun to go crazy with the paint.

Daniel and HeyYea get up close to see better.

My birdhouse village

This Friday adventure was great!  And we were getting ready to have a special treat on Saturday.  But that's the story for another blog post.
